Bridging the interoperability gap: overcoming combined application and middleware heterogeneity
<07> The core intellectual contribution of this paper is a principled middleware approach based on the dynamic synthesis of middleware connectors from domain specific languages, a completely new approach pioneered by Lancaster University (in collaboration with INRIA/ U. Bordeaux). This work is significant because interoperability is arguably the major challenges in distributed systems, especially as we move to more complex systems of systems (bringing together cloud computing, IoT, mobility, etc). Published in the ACM/IFIP/Usenix Middleware conference (acceptance rate of 19%). The resultant middleware, Starlink, is available open source through sourceforge, and widely used by the community.
