Edition with introduction and commentary of Tacitus' Annals, book 11
This book is a thoroughly reworked and substantially extended study based on Malloch’s doctoral dissertation. It required (i) the development of sophisticated arguments on a range of historical topics: Roman, German, Armenian and Parthian; (ii) the analysis of different perspectives: linguistic, literary, textual, historical, and historiographical; and (iii) the analysis of chronologically disparate ancient literary, archaeological, epigraphic, visual, and numismatic evidence, in Latin, ancient Greek, and near eastern languages, as well as manuscript evidence for constituting the text. The work required the development of new skills; and the fragmentation of the relevant bibliographical material on philological issues required extensive travel.
