This paper was published in TVLSI, one of the top-ranked journals in the area. It describes the first combined hardware FPGA and Software system that is able to monitor network flows at Gigabit rates - a ten-fold increase on previous work. The approach is both more scalable and flexible compared with pure hardware approaches. The paper was in the top 25 TVLSI downloaded papers for 2008 (http://tvlsi.eecs.northwestern.edu/top25_2008.htm) and provided input to EU DIADEM firewall project with France Telecom and IBM. Yusuf was PostDoc on this project.
