Combined digital imaging of mixed-field radioactivity with a single detector.
This reports simultaneous imaging of both fast neutrons and gamma-rays, of key relevance to the characterisation of nuclear reactors, submarines, particle accelerators, proton therapy facilities, nuclear decommissioning, accident response measures, nuclear safeguards and security applications A patent was filed by Joyce et al. on the method (Patent no. GB2484315.0). The research was funded by the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (PhD bursary). It precipitated:
• An EngD project with Createc Ltd. (matt.mellor@createc.co.uk) to advance the method for decommissioning,
• An invited paper to ANIMMA2012 (Ghent, http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/stamp/stamp.jsp?tp=&arnumber=6154120),
• Interest from Fukushima (keith.franklin@fco.gov.uk),
• Relevance to ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor) (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0969804312005271, liship@mail.ustc.edu.cn).
