Richard Davey has been licensed as an Associate Priest in the Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham since 2004. The Diocese of Southwell and Nottingham expect all clergy to undertake study and develop interests beyond their parochial responsibilities, and in Davey's case this is acknowledged to be his academic research activities. Since September 2004 he has also worked as a part-time Chaplain at NTU. Through this relationship with NTU, he was given an award as a Visiting Fellow in the School of Art and Design in 2007. Since being awarded a PhD through the Department of Theology and Religious studies at Nottingham University in 2005, which focused on contemporary Christian art, he has worked consistently to develop a critical practice that engages specifically with research in the School of Art and Design. He has taken a leading role in the strand of art-based research that engages with contemporary belief systems that is cited in the impact case study ‘Art and Belief’. He has produced 5 research papers, 4 books, 6 exhibition catalogues and curated 3 exhibitions with accompanying catalogues during this period.
