De rodillas para rezar. ¡De pie para combatir!: El enfrentamiento entre católicas y socialistas por asociar a las trabajadoras de Madrid (1906-1927)
As socialist politics developed in Spain in the early 20th century, Catholics started to implement their own alternative to counteract the increasing support for the left. This paper analyses rivalry between socialist and Catholic women's groups to become the preferred political project for working-class women in Madrid. By examining their opposing collective identities and actions, this paper shows that both groups represented two conflicting alternatives in women workers’ social and political mobilization. Through a detailed analysis, this study makes it possible to understand the changes experienced by both groups which can only be explained as an inter-related process.
