Archetipi napoletani in veste postmoderna. Venti anni di narrativa su Napoli
The article contends originally that contemporary Neapolitan narratives: use Neapolitan archetypes rooted in the city’s geophysical characteristics to expose stereotypes and redefine Neapolitan identity; employ a blend of postmodernist, modernist and realist modes which is highly productive ethically, aesthetically and ideologically, turning Naples into a critical allegory of contemporary Italy and the global world.
It thus successfully contests the recent Italian debate on the exhaustion of postmodernism demonstrating that: Neapolitan authors have always remained committed to reality even while adopting postmodern literary practices; Saviano’s Gomorra is the arrival point of new realist trends going back to the early 1990s.
