Additional information

Cavity based methods using whispering gallery modes are highly sensitive methods for measuring the size of small aerosol droplets. However they are limited to droplets that are a few microns in diameter. In this work we demonstrated a new technique that can size arbitrarily small aerosols simply by monitoring their Brownian motion. This work was key in attracting several invited talks (Optical Tweezers Symposium, Berlin 2010; Trends in Micromanipulation, Obergurgl 2010).
