Additional information

This article extends the analysis and commentary on the two year DCSF-funded study, Minority Ethnic Exclusions and the Race Relations (Amendment) Act 2000, Research Report 616, www.dfes.gov.uk/research/data /uploadfiles/RR616.pdf. The research was based on visits to 80 schools sampled across 12 local authorities, set within a context of two years of PLASC (Pupil Level Annual School Census) data. The analysis showed that even taking account of other contextual data, the disproportionality of minority ethnic exclusions from school was reduced by only one third. Only one third of schools studied were fully compliant with the Race Relations legislation.
