Additional information
The paper presents some of the unique new results from a custom-made hip simulator for long-term testing of cement fixation integrity (Zant et al, JBME, ASME, 2006). The major advances include a combined loading spectrum built from daily routine activities and the use of microCT in detecting the damage development inside of an acetabular reconstruct for the first time under selected physiological loading conditions. The work was funded by the Arthritis Research UK and in collaboration with clinical staff at the local NHS hospitals.
