Double-weighted statement

Cathy Come Home is the only full-length account of a television play that has been of considerable political and cultural importance. It was based on the collection and analysis of extensive primary sources, including the BBC Written Archives, and interviews with some of the main programme makers (e.g. Tony Garnett). It also involved synthesising different kinds of research materials, including government policy documents, BBC memoranda and personal archives (e.g. Jeremy Sandford), some of which were difficult to access. This project is the culmination of a decade’s research on social realist television drama of the 1960s and 70s.
