Femtoliter tunable optical cavity arrays.
World first report of open access optical resonators fabricated using ion beam milling producing resonators, comparable in specifications to photonic crystals but with better tunability and coupling. These have applications from fundamental physics to spectroscopy, sensing, and quantum information technologies. Has led to several further papers and to five new research grants in 2012/2013 (total value £3.6M, of which ~£1M to Materials Dept) including an EC STREP collaboration (€2M) which I am coordinating, three patent applications. Several new collaborations with leading groups (Skolnick, Sheffield and Langbein, Cardiff) have been created to take the work forward.
