Additional information

This work is at the intersection of water surface wave mechanics and contact line dynamics. For the first time it describes and explains that an eddy is generated by the interaction between a wall boundary layer flow and the flow induced by a moving contact line. The paper resulted in an invitation to the author from Snoeijer (University of Twente) to conduct an interdisciplinary collaboration to investigate the breaking front in a tsunami propagating onshore. Additionally, this work earned the author the 1st prize in the 2011 Young Person's Paper Competition of the International Association of Hydro-Environment Engineering (UK Section).
