Algorithms for the automated analysis of cellular dynamics within living fungal colonies
This work provides a novel and robust methodology for long time series analysis of organelle dynamics in live cell systems. The exemplary data from fungal cell colonies provided supporting evidence for a new understanding of the role of cell fusion in colony growth and phenotyping of individual organelles. The work was the result of a new collaboration funded through a BioPhotonics platform grant (EPSRC GR/S96555) and directly led to a new project to study mosquito behaviour as a vector for malaria (FP7 AFRICA-HEALTH-F3-2011-265660, £325k to Leeds), the latter generating a patent application for new bed net designs.
