A new procedure to measure near yield residual stresses using the deep hole drilling technique
Knowledge of residual stress in safety-critical components is essential for accurate structural-integrity assessment. Mechanical Strain Relief (MSR) techniques for estimating magnitude of residual stress work by measuring displacements when part of component is machined away. Unfortunately, use of MSR techniques for components containing high residual stresses previously resulted in substantial error. Paper describes new MSR procedure that allows correct measurement of large residual stresses. New technique is offered by Veqter Ltd. [REF3b: Veqter; contact: Managing Director] who provide residual-stress measurement services to industry. Paper is in top 3% of most-cited in journal within REF period (Web of Science, 7/7/2013).
