Persia’s Imperial Power in Late Antiquity : The Great Wall of Gorgān and Frontier Landscapes of Sasanian Iran
Persia’s Imperial Power is based on five fieldwork seasons in Iran (2005-2009), and a significant part of eight years of research (2004-2012). The project required substantial logistical input to co-ordinate a large international team of researchers, both in the field and with regard to publication. Substantial effort was also spent on library research in the UK, Germany, France and Iran. The scale and scope of the project, involving the simultaneous exploration of a 195km-long wall and related sites, of up 3 km2, plus the examination of comparative evidence, from across the ancient world and beyond, was significant.
