Double-weighted statement

This book makes a significant new contribution both to a neglected aspect of Greek religion and to the wider topic of ancient divine representation for which mixanthropy has major implications. Its scope is ambitious: methodologically in that it covers both visual and literary depictions, chronologically because it extends from the Archaic to the Hellenistic period, and geographically through its inclusion of Western and Eastern Greek material. At 344 pages (excluding Appendix, bibliography etc.) it is substantial; its publication by Kernos places it at the heart of current scholarship on ancient religion alongside other extremely significant recent works within the field.
