Additional information

This paper is based on work done by, and written by Colin Forsyth who at the time was a Ph.D. student under Lester's supervision as his primary supervisor. Lester was responsible for suggesting Forsyth's thesis project on the transients referred to in the paper, bursty bulk flows, provided guidance on the analysis methods used in this paper, and insight into the interpretation of the data. As Forsyth's supervisor Lester also played a major role in the drafting of the paper and response to referees .
