<18>Of the four types of attacks proposed in this work, the ciphertext-only attack is the most interesting as it exploits the unbalanced statistical properties of different DPSS coefficients to optimise the recovery results. This is almost certainly the first time such statistics have been used for cryptanalysis of multimedia encryption schemes. The idea contained in this paper was subsequently extended to a more formal approach for optimising the recovery quality for DCT-transformed images and led to three further published papers. IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology is one of the most prestigious journals in the field.
