Size-Dependent Valence and Conduction Band-Edge Energies of Semiconductor Nanocrystals
MC-2: Accurate knowledge of the band-edges of semiconductor nanocrystals underpins the development of future photovoltaic devices. This paper reports sophisticated experimental measurements of the valence and conduction band-edge energies of PbS, PbSe, CdS, and CdSe (undertaken at CSIRO, Australia's national science agency (jacek.jasieniak@csiro.au)), accompanied by state-of-the-art atomistic calculations performed at Leeds. The excellent agreement between theory and experiment has led to this paper being highly cited by the international community, providing a definitive set of band-edge energies for use in the design of nanocrystal photovoltaics. This work also underpinned the renewal of Califano’s Royal Society University Research Fellowship in 2012.
