Additional information

The role of carbon dioxide as a potential green solvent was enhanced by the finding of a simple, non-fluorinated and inexpensive hydrocarbon surfactant that can stabilise small water droplets within this awkward solvent. Subsequently, considerable funding has been attracted for this work including STFC funded facility access time (3 days on LOQ, ISIS) and an EPSRC grant (EP/I018301/1) applying concepts from the work to photo-responsive surfactants. In addition, a successful collaboration with Masanobu Sagisaka in Hirosaki University, Japan was started, leading to 5 publications since 2010.
