English abstract

Whistleblowers bring alleged abuses or grievances to public attention through information disclosure. The processing of personal data that is inherent in the notification of the abuse is not only an important issue of data protection law but also affects ethical and fair information principles in transnational employment cultures. This article contributes to the debate surrounding the whistleblower's responsibility: to what extent can personal information be disclosed in the light of the risks to his or the accused individual's position? The article raises this question by considering the different attitudes to whistleblowing in the Anglo-American and the Continental European legal traditions.
