Additional information

This paper introduces the concept of a solar-powered desalination system that is currently being transferred to north-west India, where it will be tested for deployment in arid inland areas having brackish groundwater. Local contacts for verification: Prof. Himanshu Tyagi (himanshu.tyagi@iitrpr.ac.in) at IIT Ropar, and Mr Cyrus Engineer (cyrus@indboilers.com) at Industrial Boilers Ltd, Vapi. It is also subject of UK Patent Application 1010394.3. The benefit of the system is the exceptionally high output of water per unit of energy consumed, even with low-grade heat, making it particularly suited to use in co-generation systems powered by solar, biomass or geothermal.
