Additional information

In Torn Gestures I present a new series of work consisting of large-scale plaster sculptures and prints that dominate the gallery space. Monochromatic collages are screen-printed directly onto a plaster surface. I am challenging the conventions of materiality through this new technique. The method allows me to explore the tension between the painted surface and the sculptures’ inherent material form. The printed marks create a two-dimensional aspect which interferes with the work becoming exclusively identifiable as an object. Interested in the relationship between solid and void and the importance of line within this dialogue. The play between the ambiguous nature of these elements enables me to unearth previously obscured areas which I refers to as ‘obstacles of vision’ or ‘blind spots’. The new work created for this exhibition advanced out of a challenging and focused exploration into screen printing, where I was able to push the boundaries of the print and explore the importance that process holds with in the development of my current concerns.
