Film, Memory and the Legacy of the Spanish Civil War : Resistance and Guerrilla 1936-2010
This study has required archival research of films and film scripts, as well as interviews with organisations, institutions, and Spanish Civil War survivors. As most films were produced under a dictatorship, the impact of censorship had to be assessed with archival-based comparisons of original scripts and released versions. Early films (which form two-thirds of the sample) required oral history verification, achieved through interviews and meetings. The project sought to elucidate attitudes and ideas, which meant that an interdisciplinary theoretical paradigm had to be developed, drawing on Oral History, Memory Studies, International Justice, Film, and Holocaust Studies
