Additional information

For the first time, generic sensor materials for the detection of proteases have been described. The sensor materials are applicable in a wide range of medical applications that are accompanied by raised levels of proteases including inflammatory conditions such as periodontal disease and autoimmune diseases such multiple sclerosis or solid organ graft rejection. This work lead to a TSB funded project for the development of a low-cost periodontal disease diagnostic (£755k), the foundation of the spin-out company Degrasense, two patent applications, one of which has already been granted (EP2082057), and further funding from the IP Group plc (£60k).
