Intimal hyperplasia following implantation of helical-centreline and straight-centreline stents in common carotid arteries in healthy pigs: influence of intraluminal flow{dagger}.
Part of a long-running programme to reduce intimal hyperplasia (vessel narrowing) after vascular interventions; hyperplasia is the major cause of stent failure, for example. The paper, featured on the journal cover, showed pig arteries narrow less after implanting our patented (US7326240B1, 2008) helical-centerline stent, licensed to Veryan Medical (www.veryanmed.com), than after implanting a stent with conventional geometry. These preclinical data were presented by invitation at a Royal Society meeting (2012). Promising results from ongoing clinical trials were presented at EuroPCR, Paris, and VIVA13, USA, in 2013.
