This new low cost and very accessible method for fabricating amorphous carbon nanowires was patented by imec, Belgium (WO 2012150278 A1), and was highlighted on the ACS Nano website (July 2011). Further, the results from this study played a key role in De Volder's Laureate from the Belgian Royal Academy Dec. 2011 (EUR10k), as well as the prize of the KULeuven research council (2010, EUR10k) which is a token of recognition and encouragement for promising young researchers at the KULeuven (http://www.kuleuven.be/research/funding/bof/personal/index.html#por).
