Double-weighted statement

The book combines multiple disciplinary approaches to British musical culture immediately after the Second World War, formulating new arguments about a) the intersections of music and historical memory, b) the rootedness of Benjamin Britten’s music in postwar social and cultural policy, and c) the importance of music in postwar “planning”.

The book uses primary materials from multiple archival collections and libraries, from BBC memos to festival programmes. It is the culmination of nearly ten years of research and writing.
