Improved search for muon-neutrino to electron-neutrino oscillations in MINOS

Hartnell's photo-multiplier tube (PMT) gain calibration and his relative energy scale calibration were a key part of this result, reducing the corresponding systematics down to the level where they were still among the largest systematics but did not dominate the measurement. He had a major impact in the way the main result was presented in this paper, ensuring that the error on the mixing angle theta23 was naturally taken care of, rather than assuming a particular value.
