(a) I made a substantial contribution to the conception and design of the study; and to the organisation of the conduct of the study; and to carrying out the study (including acquisition of study data). I was involved in these studies by first developing the methodology required to isolate the Spo11-oligonucleotide complexes from yeast cell extracts, and in giving substantial intellectual input during development of the methods necessary to amplify, sequence and map the resulting nucleotide sequences.
