Double-weighted statement
This monograph covers Prussian-German literature and the discourses on heroism reflected in them from the 1750s to the end of the twentieth century. It tackles the dynamics of duty and inclination, individual and state, courage and cowardice, obedience and rebellion in the works of five authors. It presents an unusually large scope allowing the argument to trace the longue durée of cultural patterns such as hero, heroic deed, and heroism over the course of the two and half centuries which represent over the key period of Prussia and Prussian culture in German history.
