Additional information

This article was generated by an industrial consortium comprising (i) TimeTech GmbH, Stuttgart (ii) Femto-ST (a CNRS-funded R&D laboratory), Besançon and (iii) NPL, Teddington, financed by the European Space Agency [contract No. 20135/06/D/MRP (“Elisa”), worth approximately 500 k€]. The consortium’s objective was to supply ESA with an ultra-stable microwave frequency reference in support of future deep-space missions; Oxborrow was the contract’s UK co-PI. All technical objectives were met. The frequency reference is now installed at ESA’s 3rd Deep Space Ground station in Malargüe, Argentina. Industrial referee: Javier De Vicente, European Space Agency, Darmstadt, javier.devicente@esa.int, tel: +49 615 190 2253.
