A numerical simulation to relate the shot peening parameters to the induced residual stresses
This paper, together with DoI:10.1016/j.advengsoft.2007.10.002, present the discrete and continuum simulations of shot peening conducted at Edinburgh for the EPSRC Project (GR/R28188) in manufacturing innovation in metal processing. It has stimulated international research: Korea, DoI:10.1016/j.matdes.2012.09.030; China, DoI:10.1007/s10409-012-0072-0; Canada, DoI:10.1016/j.ijsolstr.2011.06.003; Greece, DoI:10.1016/j.surfcoat.2011.03.080; Italy, DoI:10.1115/1.4003486; Spain, DoI: 10.1016/j.surfcoat.2010.07.126; and Iran, DoI:10.1016/j.ijimpeng.2010.04.005. The work has led to two further projects: the US$ 108k funded by IFPRI (www.ifpri.net;nikolaas.dejaeger@skynet.be) and the €4.1M FP7 T-MAPPP Project (Cathy.SOUTO-ENRIQUEZ@ec.europa.eu) involving 10 companies (e.g. Hermann Feise, BASF; Hossein Ahmadian, Proctor and Gamble; Michele Marigo, Johnson Matthey) and 6 universities (e.g. s.luding@utwente.nl, h.zetzener@tu-bs.de), led from Edinburgh.
