Double-weighted statement

This monograph is a major revisionist study, which offers a radically different understanding of a key medieval figure, Roger Bacon, and through him, his immediate environment. In the process, it undertakes a complex analysis of both modern historiography and medieval intellectual, religious and cultural history. It is based on many years' work and draws on research across a wide range of fields. Its core texts are hundreds of pages of idiosyncratic Latin, while the introduction and each of the five chapters addresses a distinct set of questions, relating to separate historiographies, offering new interpretations of each topic.
