The paper presents (to the author’s knowledge) the first documented tests on cavity wall panels, with and without openings, in a centrifuge with accompanying multi-axis deflection results over the entire wall panel for the full duration of the tests. The work was motivated by recent UK flooding events in which masonry walls were subject to unexpected lateral loads from flood water and for which full scale tests are difficult and expensive to undertake. The present work not only validated the scaled test procedure, but also provided value insights into behaviour which should feed into future design codes.
