Additional information
The research detailed in this paper generalises the classical elasticity theory and provides a very practical approach to characterise the response of large nano- structured engineering components. The paper is the outcome of a Royal Society UK-China network award and a Newton International Fellowship. It has been the subject of plenary and keynote addresses at international conferences in Beijing and St Petersburg. Professor Karihaloo’s research has been widely recognised and he has given seminars on the subject at a range of HEI institutions in the UK and abroad (Peking, Tsinghua, Cambridge, Oxford).
