This paper provides the first examination of the behaviour of a new type of shallow foundation under horizontal loading. This paper was the result of a Joint Industry Funded Project (JIP) to develop design procedures for this foundation for offshore deployment. The paper was invited for inclusion in Geotechnique’s themed issue on offshore geotechnics (September 2012) and was presented by invitation at a special session of the 7th International Conference in Offshore Site Investigation and Geotechnics (2012). The findings are used in offshore design practice (amaconochie@technip.com) and design verification by Lloyd’s Register (Neil.Morgan@lr.org).
