Additional information

<28> This paper, in a highly-ranked Nature journal, combines electrophysiological, optical, pharmacological and modelling approaches, and challenges the view that action potential-evoked and action potential-independent release of glutamate are mediated by non-overlapping sources of calcium. The paper is described as making “a major contribution, by first showing that spontaneous Ca channel openings drive a significant fraction of spontaneous release, and then by quantitatively accounting for both AP-evoked, and Ca channel-driven spontaneous release, by a unified model” [Nature Neuroscience, 9/13]. This work will be presented at the Society for Neuroscience Annual Conference, the premier venue for leading research on the brain/nervous system.
