This article is the second part of an auteur study of Yoshida Yoshishige, a director who has been overlooked in recent renewed interest in the so-called Japanese new wave. The first part of the article explores Yoshida's early career within the studio system in Japan. Published in a contiguous issue of the Asian Cinema journal, the second part explores the work from his mature period and identifies it as a bridge between Asian and European cinema.
