Research Rationale
In extending new areas of visual communication, this research broadens Glaser’s existing work on typography and the visual language of typography. Her research analyses and reveals the impact of design and typographic choices upon the visual language and understanding of the diagramatic design of statistical information. Her findings focus on implications for reader comprehension, as well as contributing new understandings of audience interpretation of statistical information within the wider field of visual communication.
Strategies Undertaken
Undertaking interviews with international networks of professional graphic designers, those charged with commissioning graphic design and also consumers of graphic design practice, Glaser uses qualitative research methods within her practice to enable research findings to emerge from anecdotal evidence of concerns amongst high profile designers and the observation of need within design studios. The work is therefore referenced to experienced, professional graphic designers and interrogates examples of visual communication from the international arena.
