Additional information

This conference paper is based on new data collected in the final phase of the author’s long-term study into the role of drawing in design. Early findings in this final phase indicated the potential for a detailed comparative analysis between the drawing practices of graphic designers, and textile designers and this paper sets out the general principles of this new contribution to knowledge. The long-term study is unique in design and drawing research in that it has been a programme of systematic and consistent investigation conducted over a thirty year period at a time of fundamental changes in designerly practice.
