Additional information

Accurate measurement of pressures exerted by medical compression products is often necessary but typically inaccurate/difficult due to the low pressures exerted and measurement site variation. I-scan sensors have been used for this purpose by several researchers but have been shown here to have several serious limitations. This paper documents a unique and rigorous 18 month evaluation of these sensors and subsequent development of a new calibration protocol that was consistently shown to produce accurate and reproducible pressure measurements. Although several papers have demonstrated limitations of I-scan sensors, this is the only paper that offers a solution to compression researchers.
