International Authors from Department of Mechanical Engineering, Politecnico of Milan, Italy, P. Albertelli, M. Monno and G. Bianchi Institute of Industrial Technology and Automation–CNR, Milan, Italy. Contact: paolo.albertelli@polimi.it. This work was a collaborative effort established during the FP6 Eumecha-pro Network of Excellence. ITIA-CNR in Milan and Polytechnic di Milano placed a staff member in the Loughborough University Mechatronics Research laboratory to create a more complete model of a piezo-electric actuated machine tool spindle that compensates for structural vibration and tool setting errors that influence the tool path through the workpiece and hence the surface quality.
