Additional information

The originality of this study rests on introducing a new ground improvement technique for soft ground where a novel Prefabricated Vertical Thermal Drain (PVTD) was designed and tested at the field. Two instrumented embankments, each has a size of 11m x 11m x 6m, were constructed on soft Bangkok clay to assess the success of this technique where solar energy system was used to heat the ground. The analysis of the embankment test results show that PVTD-system accelerates the ground improvement process (400%) and increases soils strength (200%) compared to the conventional Prefabricated Vertical Drain preloading system.
