Additional information

Thermal contact conductance (TCC) is important in aeroengine thermal modelling and other applications. This research was funded by a CASE award, and follows an earlier paper developing the measurement technique (Woodland et al, 2011. A new method for measuring thermal contact conductance – experimental technique and results. ASME J. Engng Gas Turbines and Power, 133, 071601). It presents measurements for aerospace materials and with more careful consideration of measurement uncertainty than previous work clarifies the effect of load cycling. In related work a method of estimating TCC was implemented in Rolls-Royce methods. (Reference Dr Timothy Scanlon, Rolls-Royce plc, Derby, timothy.scanlon@rolls-royce.com).
