Additional information

The experimental evidence in the paper demonstrates that Townsend similarity may fail when higher-order velocity moments are considered, even if the lower order moments appear to be self-similar. In response to these findings, additional validation will be required in all future work on rough-wall flows. Because of this insight, we are now able to re-evaluate legacy data and re-consider some of the remaining challenges in our fundamental understanding of wall-bounded turbulence.
