Additional information

Challenging the paradigm that technological interventions will be sufficient to meet unrestrained future demand in a low carbon economy, this study put forward the concept that it may be more appropriate to aim to meet the needs of a ‘decent life’. The study was thus agenda setting, being the first to quantify the carbon footprint of a ‘decent life’. It led to a research contract with the Joseph Rowntree Foundation to explore ‘green minimum income standards’, and also to ESRC/NERC funding for a PhD student starting October 2012 building on the concepts.
