Additional information

<04> Prior to the publication of this paper, (only) empirical studies had shown that split transmission techniques applied to multihop wireless networks gave improvements in worst-case delay, average throughput and average delay jitter. This paper provided the first theoretical justification for such results and derived upper and lower bounds (as appropriate) for each of the three performance metrics. It demonstrated that such results would always be achieved, not just for certain traffic patterns, and proved the validity of split-transmission techniques.
