English Catholic exiles in late sixteenth-century Paris

This research monograph of c.90,000 words utilises French language material from the sixteenth century, both printed and manuscript, that is only available in Parisian libraries and archives. It draws on a range of often fragmentary manuscript sources, including university records, journals and notarial records, whose palaeography also presents a challenge. The majority of these documents were incompletely indexed, or unindexed, so the research involved consulting a large range of documents in order to find relevant material. This involved piecing together evidence from a range of sources, as has been recognised in various journals and reviews (eg English Historical Review, 123, 2013).
